AAF Foundation runs several health initiatives in Bharatpur district
They receive around 100 patients per day of which 205 are children. Since the beginning of this initiative, home deliveries have reduced from 20% to 2%.
They educate the students on seasonal illnesses, puberty, reproductive health, dispelling superstitions and substance abuse. Students of I to V class are taught about ‘bad touch’ and general hygiene.
One such camp has been conducted in Rampura village since 2017. With a majority of its population belonging to the labour class, high unemployment rates prevented the villagers from seeking medical treatment at the district hospital 12 kms away. Skin diseases like fungal infections from contaminated water and high infant mortality rates due to anaemia and malnutrition were rampant. These health camps are held once every 15 days in 24 villages and twice every 15 days in 6 villages. Three doctors, one male, one female and one consulting surgeon attend to almost 15-170 patients. They prescribe medicines and educate the villagers on preventive and correct nutrition especially for babies.
An Aanganwadi worker also visits the village once a week for infant immunisation and many of the women of the village have joined the initiative. One such lady is Deepika who has been working for Aanganwadi for the past two years. She lost her first child due to anaemia but is now a happy mother to a healthy 8 month old baby boy thanks to the medical aid and information she received at the health camp.
